Let’s get started!
What Makes Artificial Plants Fire Retardant
Firstly, here’s a question ⇓
Are Inherently flame resistant plants/trees themselves fireproof?
No. It does not mean your plant/tree is fireproof.
Only the foliage and the stem molding is impregnated with a retardant, which prevents a sticky film from forming on the leaves, and makes sure that the retardant doesn’t wash off or simply dissipate. When it is exposed to fire or high temperature in the air, it is difficult to catch fire and difficult to burn slightly. After the fire source is removed, the combustion and micro-ignition stop immediately.
So, artificial plants made in this way are known as “Inherently Fire Retardant” (IFR).
How Are The FR Plants Tested
To make things easy, we invite you to watch this video showing the full extent of Sunwing artificial hedge plant’s fire protection. All our fire retardant plants have to pass the National Fire Prevention Association 701 test.
Here is a summary of the NFPA 701 flame test:
1. The flame must be propane or butane.
2. No wind is allowed; the air must be still.
3. Hold the artificial hedge panel vertically, 1 meter above the floor.
4. Apply the flame to the artificial hedge for 12 seconds, then remove the flame.
5. After the flame is removed the artificial box hedge must stop burning within 2 seconds.
6. While the flame is applied to the artificial boxwood hedge, no burning blobs of plastic can reach the floor.
Instead, with regard to non-ifr artificial hedge plants:
- Flame applied to fabric leaf with steady ignition.
- Flame removed resulting in increased ignition and flame spread.
- Continue burning & self-ignition.

Main Issues You Might Face As Wholesalers
Q: What should I do with the budget?
A: Just remember that artificial plants and flowers never need replacing, so any expense soon pays for itself. Before you buy, consider where the plant or tree is going to be installed, and then think over the size of space you have.
Q: Is a fireproof certificate necessary?
A: Each state and city has different regulations. You should check the building codes with your local fire-safe department. Generally speaking, many states and cities are increasingly requiring public buildings to have ifr artificial plants, and some will ask you to keep a copy of certificates proving that your organization’s foliage is fire retardant. Don’t worry, we will provide you with copies of these certificates.
Q: How many fr artificial plants do I need to cover an area of 600 square building?
A: We can customize the whole process to best suit your needs. Welcome to get minimum order & pricing details from us.
